about

'Dear Me Thirteen' is the first single from Bathurst musician Kate Meadley. The song was written upon her return from a whirlwind adventure to the other side of the globe to make peace with the insecurities of her younger self. Kate hopes that her songwriting will help other young girls and women discover hope for their future. Dear Me Thirteen was produced by Marty Brown and Clare Bowditch at their studio in Melbourne and will be followed by an EP to be recorded in 2014.

lyrics

Dear me thirteen,
you're worried about everything your life is gonna bring
And you should be
you can be really mean to yourself
Meaner than you are to anybody else

Dear me thirteen
don't worry about your chest
one day your gonna grow up have a real perky set
You'll come so far
just think about how infinite and musical we are

Please know that it gets better
you'll meet amazing people, learn to appreciate the weather

Dear me thirteen
you think you'll always beso awkward weird and ugly
I wish you could hear me
It's the good things that your gonna do that'll show the world the real you

Please know that it gets better
you'll meet amazing people, learn to appreciate the weather
Please know that you are fine
Boys and girls will even want
to touch your lovely body from time to time

Dear me thirteen
I'm gonna tell the truth
The next few years will pick you up
and tear you down
and make you feel like
'well whats the use?'

Well...
You're gonna leave the nest
never take another stupid test
You'll form an awesome band
see your little brother become a man
you'll stand up for your right
to party all the freakin' day and night
you'll meet the perfect guy
break your heart and think your gunna die

Survive that old black dog
and all his friends
and get an awesome job
singing up there on stage
with your hero
you'll act your age

Learn to catch those compliments
learn acceptance
willingness
learn to forgive
learn some grace
the wonder of a smiling face

You'll learn to love yourself
thanks to everybody else
you'll see the whole damn world
jump from aeroplanes
you'll learn to surf
When you lay in bed at night
thinking back over life
you'll know wthat you're alright
